A guide to Gift Aid

What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid is a tax relief available to UK registered charities. It enables us to claim the tax back for charities, adding an additional 25% to every eligible donation.

How do I add Gift Aid to my donation?

If you've made a mistake when filling out the Gift Aid declaration, the best thing to do is call our support team on 0845 078 2063. We're able to amend a Gift Aid declaration, but only within 24 hours of the donation being made.

Our opening hours are:
Monday - Friday: 9am - 6pm
Saturday and Sunday: 9am - 5pm

If your donation is not eligible for Gift Aid, we will not be able to add it. Donations not eligible include situations where:

• The donation was made on behalf of an individual, group or company.
• The donation was made to a close family member that is doing an event and the chosen charity is contributing to its costs.
• The donation was made to a charity who is not registered to reclaim Gift Aid

Alternatively, you can use your computer to visit the link by copying the address into the web address bar of your browser.

Once you've opened the link, follow these steps:

  1. Tick the box I confirm the above information is correct
  2. Fill in Your details
  3. Personalise your donation (optional)
  4. Set your contact preferences
  5. Click Add Gift Aid

Why isn't my donation eligible for Gift Aid?

According to HMRC rules, certain donations are not eligible for Gift Aid. If your donation falls into any of the following categories, we will not be able to claim the Gift Aid:

  1. Donations made by anyone that is not a UK taxpayer
  2. Donations made on behalf of someone else, a group of people or a company - For example, a friend gives you £10 and you donate this to your fundraising page using you card and details. Even if the friend is a UK taxpayer, the donation is not eligible. HMRC needs to know the details of the person contributing the funds.
  3. Donations made in return for something - For example, you are making a donation in return for a ticket to attend an event.
  4. Donations to a family member who's doing an event where the charity is contributing to the cost - For example, you are donating to a close family member that is doing a trek overseas and the charity is paying for the cost of their trip.
  5. Donations to a charity that isn't registered for Gift Aid - If a charity hasn't provided us with the Gift Aid number they have been given by HMRC, we're not able to act as their Gift Aid agent.

If you've recently made a donation that hasn't received Gift Aid and it doesn't fall into any of the above categories, please give us a call on 0845 078 2063 and we'll endeavor to work out what's happened.
